In light of yesterday's post on inspiration, we decided to continue on our inspirational soapbox.
So with that, this month's Kickstarter product of the month is a little different than normal. Instead of featuring an innovative product, we'll be featuring an inspirational and heartfelt product that is sure to warm even the coldest of hearts.
Originally published in 2014, Aki Yamaguchi's photographic memoir titled, "Heart Dog", achieved an astounding following and stole the hearts of thousands of animal lovers around the world. If a picture is worth a thousand words, than Aki Yamaguchi's are worth ten thousand. Not only did Aki beautifully tell the story of her close relationship with her beloved Border Collie named Jazzy, but she was also able to us even more with her awe-inspiring photography.
Lucky for us, Heart Dog and Aki Yamaguchi are set to make a comeback with a newly updated version in late 2017. The updated version will include the beginning of Aki and Jazzy's time together and is a continuation of their lives, taking the reader further into their very personal story from where the last version of the book left off in 2014.
In Aki's own words "Since I published the first book over two years ago, so much more has happened. I found happiness, only to have my world turned upside down a few months later when I was diagnosed with cancer. Then, six months after I completed my treatment, I received the devastating news that Jazzy had the same diagnosis — cancer. Knowing what her diagnosis meant, instead of counting down her last days with me, I decided to start counting up each day that I was blessed to have her. The updated Heart Dog captures as best I can these events—how we fought for life, loved, and lived as if each day was the last."
If you pledge to Aki's Kickstarter you will receive a signed book from Aki, while also directly supporting the Border Collie Rescue and Rehab with financial proceeds.
To give the readers a sample of what is to come, Aki posted a selection of draft quotes from her book.
"...And I know I have my 'Heart Dog'— that once, or twice if you are very, very lucky, in a lifetime soul dog. It is almost cruel to be given such a gift, only for it to be taken away in such short years."
“When an old gentleman wanted to pet her from his hospital bed, but couldn’t move his hand, she hopped onto a stool, put her chin on the bed and placed her muzzle under his palm so that he could feel her soft fur. The man shut his eyes to embrace the connection. He and many of the residents told me how much they missed their dogs and told stories about their beloved and absent companions.”
“The only way for me to cope with this harsh reality is to think of dogs as angels; we are only borrowing them for a short amount of time. Each angel teaches us life lessons: patience, forgiveness, appreciation for the simple things in life. They also show us how to live in the moment, and help us heal from life's inevitable pain.…“
